A SACRIFICE TO THE GOD OF THE BLUES Nominated for Best Screenplay at Oregon FF

Jonathan LaPoma’s short script A SACRIFICE TO THE GOD OF THE BLUES is one of eight scripts nominated for “Best Original Screenplay” at the 2017 Oregon Short Film Festival. A SACRIFICE TO THE GOD OF THE BLUES follows an impressionable young man who struggles to make sense of the alternating good and bad advice he receives from a much older friend as they travel through the heart of Mexican drug territory on a cursed trip to a remote Pacific coast beach.

This script is based on a short story of the same name that appeared in the November 2014 issue of 34thParallel Magazine, and that short story is based on a chapter of LaPoma’s novel UNDERSTANDING THE ALACRAN, which will be published later this year.
