Two of Jon LaPoma’s Scripts Advance in Evolution Mallorca Film Fest

Jonathan LaPoma’s feature-length dramas SOFI’S JOURNEY and THE WAY BACK HOME are semifinalists in the 2016 Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival.

SOFI’S JOURNEY:

An obsessive-compulsive twenty-one-year-old Peruvian woman, hoping to find love and relief from her mental illness, travels from Lima to the USA on a work-abroad program and takes a job at a small ski resort in Montana (GIRL, INTERRUPTED meets MARIA FULL OF GRACE). SOFI’S JOURNEY has won 8 awards/honors including 3rd place in the 2015 River Bend Film Festival and Honorable Mention in the 2014 Indie Gathering Film Festival.

THE WAY BACK HOME:

A young boy who loves animals must cope with his father’s insistence that he’ll someday work in the slaughterhouse that’s employed the men of their family for the last several generations (KES meets BILLY ELLIOT). THE WAY BACK HOME has won 18 awards/honors, including the Grand Jury Prize of both the 2014 Hollywood Screenplay Contest and the 2015 Las Vegas Screenplay Contest, and the Grand Prize of the 2014 London Film Awards. It’s also ranked in the top 2% of the over 2,700 screenplays listed on MovieBytes.com.

LaPoma’s ten scripts have won 98 total awards/honors since 2013.

LA TIERRA QUE YO AMO is ranked in the top 2% of the more than 2,700 scripts listed on MovieBytes.com and has won 26 awards/honors.

THE WAY BACK HOME a Finalist in the 2014 Beverly Hills Screenplay Contest

Jonathan LaPoma’s feature-length screenplay, THE WAY BACK HOME, is a finalist in the 2014 Beverly Hills Screenplay Contest. This is the 7th honor the script has received in the past year, including the Grand Jury Prize at the 2014 Hollywood Screenplay Contest, the Grand Prize at the 2014 London Film Awards, and 3rd place at the Chicago Screenplay Contest (drama category). THE WAY BACK HOME can be seen as a mix between KES and BILLY ELLIOT, and has been described as “A story that will stay with you and make you look in the mirror” by Summit Talent and Literary Agency. It’s currently ranked in the top 7% of the nearly 2,500 scripts listed on MovieBytes.com.

DELLWOOD Ranked 9th on MovieBytes “Top Ten” List

Jonathan LaPoma’s coming-of-age drama, DELLWOOD, is ranked 9th in the “Urban” category of MovieBytes.com’s “Top 10 Contest Winning Scripts” page. DELLWOOD follows a group of young boys who use a city basketball court as an escape from the various forms of abuse they suffer growing up in the economically, but not spiritually, depressed city of Buffalo, New York. DELLWOOD is a cross between STAND BY ME and THE BASKETBALL DIARIES.
