DELLWOOD a Diamond Award Winner at California Film Awards

Jonathan LaPoma’s feature-length coming-of-age drama DELLWOOD is a finalist in the Diamond Award category of the 2015 California Film Awards. DELLWOOD follows a successful, but unhappy, novelist who reluctantly returns to his childhood town to attend a friend’s funeral. While there, he reminisces about his experiences as a child playing basketball on a city court to escape from emotional abuse, and he understands himself and the theme of his next project more clearly. DELLWOOD can be described as STAND BY ME meets THE BASKETBALL DIARIES, and it’s the 7th ranked Urban screenplay in MovieBytes.com’s Top 10 Contest Winning Scripts section.

Two of Jon LaPoma’s Scripts Advance in Aura Screenwriter Awards

The Aura Screenwriter Awards have selected Jonathan LaPoma’s script DELLWOOD and SANDLEY (short script) as quarterfinalists in their 2015 competition (winners still pending).

LaPoma’s writing works have won 21 awards/honors since October 7th, and 66 overall since 2013.

DELLWOOD Ranked 9th on MovieBytes “Top Ten” List

Jonathan LaPoma’s coming-of-age drama, DELLWOOD, is ranked 9th in the “Urban” category of MovieBytes.com’s “Top 10 Contest Winning Scripts” page. DELLWOOD follows a group of young boys who use a city basketball court as an escape from the various forms of abuse they suffer growing up in the economically, but not spiritually, depressed city of Buffalo, New York. DELLWOOD is a cross between STAND BY ME and THE BASKETBALL DIARIES.

With great pleasure, Jonathan LaPoma will be returning to Mexico for the 2014 Oaxaca Film Festival, where his script DELLWOOD has been chosen as an official selection, competing to be this year’s best overall screenplay. This is the second consecutive year Jon has placed in the scriptwriting competition, as his award-winning A NOBLE TRUTH was an official selection at the Oaxaca Film Festival in 2013.
