Jonathan LaPoma’s feature-length coming-of-age drama DELLWOOD is a finalist in the Diamond Award category of the 2015 California Film Awards. DELLWOOD follows a successful, but unhappy, novelist who reluctantly returns to his childhood town to attend a friend’s funeral. While there, he reminisces about his experiences as a child playing basketball on a city court to escape from emotional abuse, and he understands himself and the theme of his next project more clearly. DELLWOOD can be described as STAND BY ME meets THE BASKETBALL DIARIES, and it’s the 7th ranked Urban screenplay in MovieBytes.com’s Top 10 Contest Winning Scripts section.

Jonathan LaPoma’s coming-of-age drama, DELLWOOD, is ranked 9th in the “Urban” category of MovieBytes.com’s “Top 10 Contest Winning Scripts” page. DELLWOOD follows a group of young boys who use a city basketball court as an escape from the various forms of abuse they suffer growing up in the economically, but not spiritually, depressed city of Buffalo, New York. DELLWOOD is a cross between STAND BY ME and THE BASKETBALL DIARIES.
With great pleasure, Jonathan LaPoma will be returning to Mexico for the 2014 Oaxaca Film Festival, where his script DELLWOOD has been chosen as an official selection, competing to be this year’s best overall screenplay. This is the second consecutive year Jon has placed in the scriptwriting competition, as his award-winning A NOBLE TRUTH was an official selection at the Oaxaca Film Festival in 2013.
